Discipline Policy

In order to maintain a fun and educational program, we must must have a clear discipline policy.  Redirection will be used first to try and redirect the child’s behavior away from what they are doing.  We also believe in using positive comments when the child is behaving appropriately.

  1. No physical punishment will be used.
  2. Time out is the only acceptable form of discipline used on children under four years of age.
  3. Loss of privileges is used for older children.
  4. Parent involvement will be implemented
  5. If the above methods do not work and the behavior is a constant disruption to the activities and running of the daycare, I will have no choice but to terminate care of your child.  I will give you the courtesy of two weeks notice unless the behavior is harmful to the other children in care.

Although it's sometimes impossible to follow a schedule with children, you will find a typical day on our Activity and Program page.

Throughout the day children will take part in various supervised activities from structured learning to free play, where they can learn the importance of manners, team-work, and organizational skills.  Your child will benefit from both the structured and non-structured learning.

At A Sunny Place we recognize that you have a difficult schedule and support parents the best we can. We offer drop-in care and early drop-off and late pick-up so that your schedule can be accommodated. We recognize the importance of work, and the stress and demands placed on parents. We strive to make it easier on parents by giving them the assurance that their children are in good hands.

About the Program

We believe that a safe environment allows children to explore and grow. At A Sunny Place, we allow children to have child-led hands-on learning experiences. This fosters age appropriate development. We read to the children everyday. We believe that positive reinforcement is important for children to develop self-esteem. Children need an environment that supports free expression and stimulates learning. Most importantly, however, we believe that children need to have fun!  Children learn best from experiencing the world around them.

We believe children benefit from learning about nature and environmental stewardship at an early age.  We work with the kids on the "Four R's."  Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Replant.  We "upcycle" everything we can in to art projects or toys.  One of the children's favorite toys is "Yogurt Blocks."  We've washed and sanitized dozens of yoplait containers and the kids love building with them!  We also learn about littering, using less, and taking care of the resources we've been given.

We go with natural products whenever we can including hormone free milk, hormone free - free range grass fed beef, cage free, hormone free chickens, and fresh fruits and veggies.

A Sunny Place Learning Center's mission is to provide an educational based child care service that prepares children for the future using an interactive approach that allows us to work with one child at a time. Through my research and experience as a dad, I feel very strongly this is the best way to educate and help the children develop.
